Best Technology Management & Innovation Specialist 2017 - Saudi Arabia MAB17009 Prof. Khorsheed led the establishment of the first national technology incubation program in the country, BADIR, and the university-industry research collaboration program, Technology Innovation Centers, in addition to the Intellectual Property (IP) Management System program for Saudi Arabia’s national science agency, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology. He also served as the Secretary General of the Steering Committee for the National Innovation Ecosystem where his efforts led to a highly consultative engagement of stakeholders of the Saudi innovation ecosystem, the outcome of which was incorporated in the ninth national development plan. Whilst undertaking his secondment to General Electric, Prof. Khorsheed was appointed as the Innovation Officer in Saudi Arabia. He established GE Innovation Center in Dhahran Techno Valley, the first center of its kind in Middle East, North Africa and Turkey region. During his term, he positioned GE as an active component in the Saudi national innovation ecosystem that fosters technological innovation and promotes local capacity. Mohammad succeeded in building strategic relationships between GE and local key clients, collaborating with various stakeholders in the academic sector to engineer innovative solutions to local challenges and involving the society at large through social innovation. With more than 35 patents issued from US, European, Japanese, Chinese and Saudi patent offices to his credit, Mohammad’s research activities span image and text processing, pattern recognition, Arabic document processing, and optical character recognition. Currently, Mohammad is supporting a number of SMEs in GCC and UK in two focus areas. First, strengthening their competitiveness through consolidating the intellectual property (IP) portfolio.
